Durham girl Amy wins Olympic bronze at just 16

County Durham’s Amy Tinkler has won an Olympic bronze medal.

The 16-year-old, from Bishop Auckland, finished 3rd in the Women’s Floor Exercise behind US gymnasts Simone Biles and Alexandra Raisman.

Amy’s medal is the first to be won by Team GB’s female Olympic team this year.

The schoolgirl, who is the youngest member of Great Britain’s 366-strong delegation, told the BBC that she will collect her GCSE exam results on the day she returns home from Rio.

The 2016 Olympic Games continue until Sunday.
