Workers urged towards healthier lifestyle

Businesses are being encouraged to help their staff stop smoking by switching to ‘vaping’.

Thousands of people have already switched to e-cigarettes and Vapourlites, based at Peterlee Business Park, is encouraging more people to quit the habit as national No Smoking Day approaches (March 8).

Research published in Annals of Internal Medicine in February found that E-cigarettes are less toxic and safer to use in comparison to conventional cigarettes.

Scientists, funded by Cancer Research UK, found that people who switched from smoking regular cigarettes to e-cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for at least six months, had much lower levels of toxic and cancer causing substances in their body than people who continued to use conventional cigarettes.

For the first time, researchers analysed the saliva and urine of long-term e-cigarette and NRT users, as well as smokers, and compared body-level exposure to key chemicals.

Jackie Reed from Vapourlites, who have a specialist Vape retail store situated on Whitworth Road, says the research is great news for health-conscious employers and their staff.

She said: “This research, and the fact that it was funded by such a reputable organisation, reinforces the fact that switching to e-cigarettes is much better for you long term.

“Vaping is not only safer for you but it’s significantly cheaper too, while for employers there’s a massive benefit as it will cut absentee levels due to smoking related illnesses.

“We are urging businesses to look at the level of support they offer to their staff as using an e-cig device alongside health and wellbeing programmes can substantially improve the chances of giving up smoking. Come into our shop to see what we can do to support further.”

Vape Store Peterlee

Peterlee’s Vape store has a ‘vaping area’ where customers can try before they buy.

Vapourlites launched in 2011 and experienced significant growth within the independent pharmacy sector before moving into the multinational high street retail market.

In 2014, the firm started the roll-out of their own retail stores under the Vape name, they have a shop and headquarters in Peterlee, new North East stores and ‘cash and carry’ outlets opening over the coming weeks in Middlesbrough, Durham and Team Valley Trading Estate in Gateshead.

The Vape store in Peterlee has a vast selection of vapeware and e-liquids, from some of the world’s major manufacturers.

Jackie added: “We run daily deals, along with our team’s extensive product knowledge and our great vape bar area, so you can try before you buy and get sound advice from expert staff.”
