College students land ‘beautiful’ jobs

Two talented college students have just landed their dream jobs ahead of finishing their course this summer.

Beauty therapy students Katie Adey, 19, Houghton-le-Spring, and Chloe Hargreaves, 19, from Hartlepool, who both study at East Durham College in Peterlee, are set to join high profile employers in the beauty sector.

Katie, a former Keiper Academy pupil, is joining Steiner, who operate spas on over 125 cruise ships that travel the world; whilst closer to home, Chloe is starting at Ramside Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa – the largest, privately-owned luxury hotel in the North East.

Back in February, the college arranged for Janine Brown from Steiner to come into the college to give a careers talk about the opportunities working on cruise ships and Katie instantly knew that was what she wanted to do.

Katie said: “I’d already been thinking about working abroad once I qualified, so as soon as the presentation had finished I knew I wanted to apply to Steiner.

“I was shortlisted and then went to the interviews they held in Newcastle a couple of months ago and was absolutely ecstatic when I heard I’d been successful.

“As soon as I complete my course I need to go down to their head office in London to take part in about 10 to 12 weeks of their own specialised training, sort out my visa and then I will find out where I’m going.

“It’s so exciting; I can’t wait.”

Meanwhile, Chloe was also celebrating after she had the choice of joining the beauty spa at either Ramside Hall or Seaham Hall.

“I had interviews at Ramside and Seaham in the same week and couldn’t believe it when they both offered me a job. It was a really hard decision,” Chloe said.

“But Ramside just felt right, if you know what I mean. I felt I clicked there and instantly felt at home in the environment at Ramside.”

Talking about both girls, who are due to finish their extended technical diplomas in the next couple of week, assistant programme area leader for beauty Della Frank said: “This is so well deserved, both girls are fantastic students. I was elated when I heard their news.

“Katie has been with us for three years, working her way up from level 1 to level 3, and Chloe for two after she decided to change career path following a year of studying A-levels.

“They have both worked extremely hard on their course and we get amazing feedback from their clients in the salon here at the college.

“It has been wonderful to see them both grow in confidence and self-belief over that time and turn into talented, confident young women.

“I’m sure they will both be very successful in the industry and I’d like to wish them all the best in the next chapters of their lives.”
