Will you be one of the region’s ‘Fastest 50’ of 2017?

A search has been launched to find the North East’s fastest growing companies.

Now in its 20th year, the Fastest 50 survey, established by law firm Ward Hadaway and backed by The Journal, is the definitive guide to the companies in the North East who have delivered the most impressive performances in growing their businesses.

Seaham firms Nala Engineers and Prima Cheese were among last year’s listed companies. They joined Motherdale, who are based at Castle Eden.

Nicola Duke, director at family firm Nala Engineers, said: “Last year was extremely busy for us and we experienced growth over and above projections. This year it’s all been about tapping into new markets so we’re focussing on developing our marketing strategy to help us achieve that.

“Some of the sectors we’re working in have started to become saturated and we need to look at ways to strengthen our client base before planning further growth in 2018.”

As in previous years, the 50 fastest growing businesses for 2017 – compiled by independent economic researchers using publicly available data from Companies House – will be listed in The Journal next month in A to Z format.

These 50 businesses will then go forward to the Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 Awards in October where awards will be presented to the fastest growing small, medium-sized and large privately-owned businesses in the North East.

One of these three winners will go on to be named the overall fastest growing company in the region, becoming the 20th recipient of the coveted title.

Jamie Martin, managing partner at Ward Hadaway, said: “The Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 is always a great way to celebrate all that is best about business in the North East, even more so this year as we mark the 20th time the awards have been presented.

“Over the years, I am proud to say it has become a real institution in the region and a key event in the North East business calendar which we all look forward to.

“The thinking behind the first Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 in 1998 is as true today as it was then – to champion enterprise and business achievement in the North East and to demonstrate what a great place the region is in which to live, work and do business.

“Whilst a lot has changed over the years, it remains true that those businesses which make the list for this, the 20th Ward Hadaway Fastest 50, are the real drivers of the region’s economy and setting the pace for the North East.”

The 20th Ward Hadaway Fastest 50 awards ceremony will take place in October at Baltic, the Centre for Contemporary Art, in Gateshead.
