Peterlee schoolgirl wows judges on America’s Got Talent

A schoolgirl from Peterlee has been catapulted straight into the quarter finals of America’s Got Talent after her performance of a classic Otis Redding hit.

Courtney Hadwin, 13, from Hesleden and a student at The Academy at Shotton Hall, received a standing ovation from all four judges for her stirring rendition of Otis Redding’s Hard to Handle on Tuesday night’s programme.

Judge Howie Mandel was so impressed he hit the ‘golden buzzer’, fast-tracking Courtney to the live shows and ensuring she remains in the running for the $1million prize.

The teenager is no stranger to talent competitions, having narrowly missed out on the top prize on The Voice Kids UK just months ago.

Courtney is well known by her school friends for her incredible voice and has taken part in many open mic sessions within school.

During her time on The Voice Kids UK, The Academy said she has ‘blown everyone away’ and they are ‘sure’ this won’t be her only TV performance.
