Shotton sky diver death: “We watched the tragedy unfold from our garden”

A Shotton resident has spoken about the tragic accident in which a sky diver died at the weekend.

Pamela Gower from Hebburn was found dead in an area close to Shotton airfield after her parachute apparently failed.

She was airlifted to James Cook Memorial Hospital in Middlesbrough but sadly died on Saturday evening.

The 49-year-old woman was found near a parked car close to the airfield from which the plane she had been travelling in had flown.

Jane Pipe, a Shotton resident, and her family witnessed the tragic accident. She said: “We watched this tragedy unfold from our garden.

“Our neighbourhood was amazing in attempting to save Pamela’s life as we waited for the emergency services to arrive – it’s absolutely heartbreaking.”

The coroner has been informed and a post mortem will be carried out in due course.

Our thoughts are with Miss Gower’s family at this difficult time. They have asked to be left in peace to grieve.
