East Durham College are proud to announce that their Peterlee campus will be playing host to the prestigious City & Guilds Barbering Apprentice of the Year 2016 England heats.
The event will take place on Monday 3rd October, between 12pm-5pm, with the competition running alongside hairdressing and barbering demonstrations and workshops from leading industry professionals.
Kevin Vorley, Martin Fox and Damien Owen will all be running demonstrations with the judging panel for the competition featuring these three alongside Dianne Mitchell, Chris Moon aka The Geordie Barber and East Durham College’s barbering lecturer Alison Scattergood.
This is a huge honour for the college, as they are the only educational establishment to be hosting one of the national heats of this event.
The winner of this national heat will then go on to represent their country in the national finals at the Salon International event held at The Excel Arena, London, from 15th to 17th October.
The event is free to attend for members of the public but tickets are required.
You can book your free tickets by contacting the college’s, Salon on 0191 518 8300.
East Durham College curriculum manager for hair, barbering and beauty, Simon Smith, is ecstatic to be hosting the event and is looking forward to a great day.
Simon said: “It is a massive honour to be hosting this national heat and it’s a credit to the team for their continued effort to show the importance of barbering, hairdressing and beauty training, both locally and nationally.
“We have fantastic training facilities here at the college with our industry standard salon and a brilliant team off staff who work hard every year to get our students up to the highest standard possible.
“It will be great to have some of the industry’s leading professionals here to show off their skills to both students and members of the local hairdressing and barbering community.
“And obviously it’s a great thrill to host the competition itself and see the skills on display from the top barbers of the future from throughout the country.
“It is sure to be a brilliant day.”
